Sunday

If you are not getting ready today, for tomorrow, you are leaving a lot money on the table each and every time you close a sale.

GAP Selling

I have skimmed this book in the past. Not really my thing. That was until a colleague, Bob Stolzberg pitched Keenan during a LiveCast on LinkedIn. It pays to have smart friends. Much like garyVee, Keenan may be an acquired taste. {grin}

But if you want the facts, and just the facts, he delivers.

FYI: Reach out to Keenan and tell ‘em Ski sent you

The Bottomline

Here are some take-aways to consider on this day of “rest” …

  1. If you buy a Kindle book, there is about an 80% chance that the Alexa team used “Polly” [an AWS tool] to create an audio of the book. I kept asking, “Alexa ask Kindle to Play GAP Selling.” She would beep, and nothing happened. Every week I ask, and today it worked!
  2. If you have a smartphone or a tablet you can add...

Always excited to have my opinion requested on LinkedIn

You should be able to scroll inside the above frame to Like and/or Comment.

So, in short, Yes. What gets measured gets done.

Allow me to make three observations. First:

“The goal of a for-profit company is to maximize profitability.”

Not to split hairs, but I will. {grin}

The primary goal for a for-profit business

“To make money now, and to make even more money in the future.”

Second, the short answer is almost the same: “Your mileage may vary.” But let’s talk about where they most likely will align. Consider this age-old axiom for leaders:

“Be thou Diligent to know the state of thy flocks…”
—King Solomon

The best book for that? Debra Smith’s The Measurement Nightmare: How the Theory of Constraints Can Resolve Conflicting Strategies, Policies, and Measures

If you don’t know, Cash Basis Accounting is the preferred...

devtools (part 1)

CPUperformance.png
[Image 01: Results from my Samsung Chrome 3 Chromebook]

Long story [aren’t they all?] short: one of the newest devtools in my toolbox:

“Speedometer 2.0 measures the responsiveness of the Chromium web browser by running a web application – a to-do list – and measuring how many times the application can be completed each minute. Here, performance hinges not only on CPU performance but on memory speed and capacity…”

Y Combinator

A Decade of Learnings from Y Combinator

“Michael Seibel is CEO and a partner at Y Combinator and co-founder of two startups – Justin.tv and Socialcam. He has been a partner at Y Combinator since 2013, advised hundreds of startups, and has been active in promoting diversity efforts among startup founders. Hear his take on the future of work with a decade in learnings from YCombinator.”

Over the years, including my time as Entrepreneur in Residence at Main St. Startups, I used a lot of materials from YC like the Safe documents.

P.S. You have heard both GaryVee and myself shout the praises of SocialCam. Others will know of Justin.TV and a few will know Michael for his work at YC. It is called Leadership. Plus, a shoutout to Jason Lemkin for making this video available. Check out SaaStr2020!
